Fundamentals of Tobacco Interventions

Module 3

Evaluation of the Program

In order to evaluate the program, STOP staff will contact participants via phone or e-mail to complete mandatory follow-up surveys at 3-, 6-, and 12-months. Each follow-up takes less than five minutes to complete. All participants who successfully complete their follow-ups are entered into a draw to win a prize.

It is important to note that completion of the follow-ups is mandatory to remain in the program. If a participant withdraws consent when contacted for follow-up, the agency will be notified and any NRT treatment will stop until consent (including consent to follow-ups) is provided again.

Please make sure you explain this component to the participant at the time of enrollment and collect as much contact information as possible from each participant so that we can reach them (i.e., phone numbers and email address).

Feedback Reports

The data collected (e.g., quit status) during enrollment, visits, and 3-, 6- and 12-month follow-up surveys are accessible to each agency via the STOP Portal. Your organization data will be displayed alongside other organizations of the same type.

Below, you will find a visual of a feedback report from the STOP Portal:

When reviewing your report, please be conscious of small sample sizes, particularly if your organization only enrolls a few people each month or if you are selecting a short period of time for review.

These data are also provided to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and are used for research purposes.
